【国際コース】授業紹介　～「Drama」授業～

　国際コースには「Drama」という授業があります。昨年度、生徒たちは1幕ものの短い戯曲と、1シーンのシナリオのアドリブに取り組みました。生徒たちは1時間で、これらの短い戯曲を読み、演じる練習をします。そして、先生や他の生徒の前で1時間、これらの戯曲を上演します。毎週、生徒たちはセリフを覚えるのがどんどん早くなり、演技に身振り手振りと抑揚をつけるようになっていきます。最後には、恥ずかしがったり緊張したりすることが少なくなり、お互いに、そして先生たちの前で劇を演じることができるようになります。
　この1年で最も素晴らしかった瞬間は、3月に、クラス全員の前で演技をしたい生徒がいるかどうか尋ねたところ、ほとんどすべての生徒が志願して手を挙げたことです。
　英語を学ぶのは長く、時には難しいプロセスです。しかし、人前で話すことに抵抗を感じず、ジェスチャーやイントネーションを使って一生懸命に意味を伝えようとすれば、英語力は急速に向上します。「Drama」授業が一番好きだという生徒が多いのはそのためかもしれません。

This year in the International Course, students worked with short, 1 act plays and also adlibbed one scene scenarios. Students had one hour to read and practice performing these short plays. And then they had one hour to perform these plays for the teachers and other students. Every week, the students could memorize their lines faster and faster. Every week the students put more body language and intonation into their performance. And every week the students became less shy and nervous to perform their plays for each other and the teachers. Probably the most amazing moment of the year was, in March, we asked students if any of them wanted to perform in front of the whole class and almost every student raised their hand to volunteer! Learning English is a long and sometimes difficult process. But if you feel comfortable talking in front of people and trying your hardest to use gestures and intonation to convey your meaning, your English skills can improve very rapidly. Maybe that is why many students say that drama class is their favorite class. It is because they can see their English improving every week.
