【国際コース】　「Production」授業　～ケニアについての特別の授業～

　国際コースでは、毎週金曜日に2時間の「Production」というプロジェクト・ベースの授業があります。授業には年間と通したテーマがあり、今年は文化と言語の関係を探究しています。

　最初の1ヶ月は、スペイン語、イディッシュ語、そして世界的なコミュニケーション言語としての英語の普及について学んできました。そして今日はゲストとして、ケニアから北海道大学に留学中のシン先生をお迎えしました。シン先生には、ネイティブのジェームス先生がインタビュー。ケニアで使われているさまざまな言語、東アフリカにおけるスワヒリ語の普及、アフリカ諸国における共通語としてのスワヒリ語の使用などについて語り合いました。

　会話は深く、魅力的でした。そして、全生徒が英語の内容を理解できるように、3名の生徒が同時通訳をしました（三國さん、田中さん、殿川さん、ありがとうございました）。そして、レッスンの最後には、シン先生によるスワヒリ語のコミュニケーション・レッスン。

In the International Course, every Friday, we have a special project based class for two hours. The class has a special theme, and this year we are exploring the relationship between culture and language. For the first month of classes, we studied some Spanish, some Yiddish, and also the spread of English as the global language of communication. And today, we had a special guest, Shin Sensei, an International student from Kenya who is studying at Hokkaido University. Shin Sensei was interviewed by our native English teacher James sensei. They discussed the different languages used in Africa, the spread of Swahili in East Africa, and its use as a lingua franca in African countries. The conversation was deep and fascinating. To help all the students understand what was being said in English, 3 International Course students acted as simultaneous translators (thank you Mikuni-san, Tanaka-san, and Tonokawa-san!). At the end of the lesson, Shin Sensei gave a special communication lessons for Swahili. Asante (‘thank you’ in Swahili), Shin Sensei.
