【国際コース】 「Production」授業　～地名と文化の繋がり～

　地名や人名を外国語で言うと、どのように変わるか考えたことがありますか？

　札幌の名所旧跡の多くは、もともとアイヌ語だったものが日本語になったものです。プロジェクト・ベースの「Production」授業では、これらの地名がどのように変更されたのか、なぜ変更されたのかを探ります。その結果、自分たちの名前について、またそれが世界のさまざまな国でどのように作られるのかについて話し合うことになりました。

　生徒たちは、文化と言語には強い結びつきがあることに気づくことができたようです。

　Have you ever thought about how the names of places and people change when we say them in a foreign languages?
　In Sapporo, many of the most famous landmarks and locations were originally in the Ainu language and then changed in to Japanese version of the name. In the our project-based Production Class, we explored how these places names were changed and why. This led us to a discussion about our own names and how they would be produced in different countries around the world.
　Culture and language have a strong connection and this connection can be seen in how common things like the name of our favorite park or our friends’ name change in both feeling and meaning when they are said in a different language.
