【国際コース】「Production」授業　～ディベートで英語の即興力をアップ～

　「Production」という授業では、生徒たちが学年問わずに６つのチームに分けて、英語でディベートをしました。

　ディベートのルールは、チームのメンバーが一人ずつ一話以上を話すこと、一組が議論を３つ以上出すこと、相手チームの話をしっかりと聞いて２つ以上の反論を出すこと。話題は「みんなは腕時計を一個以上所有するべきか」というのです。
　最初に話題が少し浅いと思ってしまうかもしれませんが、全てのチームができるほど深くまで賛成と反対の理由を考え出して、本当に立派な様子でディベートを行いました。相手チームの議論を聞いてすぐに反論を考え出さないといけない状況なので、英語での即興力も必要となりました。みんなきちんと相手の議論を聞き取れて、上手に反論を言い出せました。よく頑張りました！

In today’s ‘Production’ class, students were split into 6 groups, regardless of their school year, and took part in a debate contest. The rules were: every team member must speak at least once, every team must present at least three arguments, and after listening carefully to the opposing team, rebut with at least two counter-arguments. The topic was, “Everybody should own at least one watch.” Although it may seem quite a simple topic at first, each team had to think hard to come up with three well-thought-out reasons for or against the topic. As they had to produce their rebuttals soon after hearing the opposing team’s arguments, it also gave the students a chance to work on their improvisatory skills in English. Every team was able to listen and understand the opposition’s arguments and gave up with some very clever counters. Well done everyone!
