【国際コース】　Communication授業　～～絵記号の英訳！？～

　国際コースのCommunication授業では、英語の「聞く」と「話す」の両方を練習するために、生徒に会話をさせる時間を多くとっています。話す前にノートに書き留めるなど、準備することもあります。しかし、ただ書いたものを読むだけでは、自然な英語を使えているとは言えません。言いたいことを思い出し、気持ちを込めて話し、考えを伝えられるようにするために、書いた台詞を絵記号に変換してもらうこともあります。
　写真の藤井さんは、英語の文の中のアイデアを一つ一つ絵記号に「翻訳」することに励んでいます。藤井さんはこの内容を英会話で実践するとき、絵記号の文章を使って、自分の言いたいことを覚えてもらうことができます。
　このように、ただ紙から単語を読み取るのではなく、伝えたいアイデアを記憶し、そのアイデアを英語で話しているのです。これは、3年間で高いレベルの英語力を身につけるためのユニークなテクニックの1つです。

　In the International Course’s Communication Skills class, we use a lot of time to let students have conversation so that they can practice both listening and speaking in English. Sometimes the students prepare what they want to say by writing it down in their notebooks before they speak. This can make communication smoother, but if the students just read what they wrote, they are not really using the language in a natural way. To help students remember what they want to say, and speak with feeling and to convey ideas, we sometimes have students translate their written dialogue into picture-symbols. In the photograph, Mr. Fujii is working hard to ‘translate’ each of the ideas in English sentences into picture-symbols. When Mr. Fujii practices this English conversation, he can use his picture-symbol sentences to help him remember what he wants to say. In this way, instead of just reading words from a piece of paper, He is remembering the ideas he wants to convey and speaking those ideas in English. This is one of the unique techniques we use to help students become high level English users during their three years in high school.
