【国際コース】地域と共に探究　～グローバルに考え、ローカルに行動する！？～

　「グローバルに考え、ローカルに行動する」という言葉を聞いたことがあるでしょうか？国際コースでは、毎週金曜日に「コミュニティ」というテーマに探究学習を行っています。「キャリング　コミュニティ」と呼ばれる授業です。目標は、生徒自身が、札幌をより住みやすい場所にするために協力する地域団体を見つけて、自分たちが作ったプロジェクトを成功することです。

　先日、地元の町内会と街づくりセンターの代表者の方々が私たちの学校を訪ねてきました。そこでは、地域における問題や、町内会が人々の日常生活をサポートしている活動についての情報を共有しました。
　夏のダンス・フェスティバルの企画から、街灯のない場所を探して街灯を設置するための書類を作成したり、近所の歩道の雪かきを手伝ったりと、町内会が私たちの生活に与える影響の大きさに生徒たちは驚かされました。

　また、生徒たちからは、「町内会に外国人住民はどのくらいいるのか」、「町内会ではSNSを使って広報活動をしているのか」、など様々な質問が出され、活発な意見交換になりました。

　生徒たちは、町内会の活動をより多くの人に知ってもらうための方法をすでに考えているようです。「グローバルに考え、ローカルに行動する」という言葉の意味を、生徒たちがまさに示しているのは素晴らしいことです！

Have you ever heard of the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’? In the International Course, every Friday we are exploring the idea of community. The goal of this class, called ‘Caring Communities’, is for groups of students to find a local community group to work with to help make Sapporo a better place to live.

Recently, representative from the local neighborhood association visited our school. Our students learned that the neighborhood association plans summer dance festivals, finds unlighted areas has streetlights installed, and even shovels sidewalks in the neighborhood.

The students asked questions about how many foreign residents are in the neighborhood association, if the association uses SNS to promote their activities, and many other questions.

It is clear that the Clark students are already thinking of ways they can help the neighborhood association reach more people. It’s great to see our students showing exactly what the phrase, ‘think globally, act locally’ means!
