【インターナショナルコース】高校生パーラメンタリーディベート世界交流大会2024 ⑤ Debate with Cedartown High School, Georgia, USA

1月29日〜2月10日に、高校生がパーラメンタリーディベート（英国議会方式の即興ディベート）を通して国際文化交流を行う大会（PDWC: Parliamentary Debate World Conference & Competition 2024）がオンラインで開催されました。クラーク記念国際高校東京キャンパスからは、インターナショナルコースの2, 3年生3名が参加しました！

今回は 2月7日（水）に、アメリカ合衆国のジョージア州にある公立高校と行った白熱の「Debate Round 2」の様子をお伝えします！

Motion: “We cannot tackle climate change effectively without world peace.”

モーション（ディベートのテーマ）：”世界平和なくして気候変動に効果的に取り組むことはできない”

Last night, our students were fantastic. They were well prepared and were ready for the debate in advance. Their points were very well spoken and the examples and details that they provided were also very good. It was great to see our students taking challenges from the other team and they did a great job answering questions.

昨夜の生徒たちは素晴らしかったです。事前によく準備し、ディベートに臨んでいました。主張がとてもよくまとまっていたし、巧みに例示や詳述ができていました。相手チームからの挑戦を受けている生徒たちの姿は素晴らしかったし、質問にもよく答えていました。

Great input towards the discussion by Cedartown High School

The team from Cedartown has actually won this contest in the past. So they were very experienced and provided great input towards the discussion. Unfortunately, Clark was unable to win the debate. However, this was a very close call. The judges needed a little extra time to tally up their points and discuss which team debated more effectively.

Cedartownのチームは、過去にこのコンテストで優勝した経験があります。そのためとても経験豊富で、ディスカッションに素晴らしい意見を提供してくれました。残念ながら、クラークはディベートに勝つことができませんでした。しかし、これは非常に僅差の勝負でした。審査員たちは、ポイントを集計し、どちらのチームがより効果的なディベートを行ったかを議論するためにエクストラタイムを必要としました。

Next up – Indonesian team

Tonight, we will also be debating the team from Indonesia. We have met them at several events throughout the contest and they are a really friendly group of students. Let’s hope that the debate goes well and all students learn more about discussing their points of view and opinions!
