【インターナショナルコース】PDWC2025 ④ Debate 2 – A Hard-Fought Loss

2月6日〜2月12日に、高校生がパーラメンタリーディベート（英国議会方式の即興ディベート）を通して国際文化交流を行う大会（PDWC: Parliamentary Debate World Conference & Competition 2025）が対面で開催されました。クラーク記念国際高校東京キャンパスからは、インターナショナルコースの1, 2, 3年生3名が参加しました！

今回は引率したPeter先生が、白熱の第二戦の様子をお伝えします。

Debate 2 – A Hard-Fought Loss

For the second debate, our team faced Cedartown High School from the USA. The students from Cedartown were just as nervous as our own, but their passion for the topic was palpable. The motion for this round was “The house believes the loss of human connection is the biggest challenge modern society faces!” It was a tough and complex issue, but our students gave it their all.

2回目のディベートで、私たちのチームはアメリカのCedartown High Schoolと対戦しました。Cedartownの生徒たちも私たちと同じように緊張していましたが、テーマに対する情熱は伝わってきました。このラウンドのテーマは、「人と人とのつながりの喪失が現代社会が直面する最大の課題か」でした。難しく複雑な問題でしたが、生徒たちは全力を尽くしました。

Despite their best efforts, they came up short, and the result was a loss. Though disappointed, the team was determined not to let it discourage them. They quickly turned their focus to the third and final debate, ready to give it their best shot.

ベストを尽くしたもののおよばず、結果は敗戦。残念でしたが、チームはこの結果に落胆することはありませんでした。彼らはすぐに切り替えて、最後のディベートとなる3つ目のディベートに集中し、全力を尽くす覚悟を決めました。
